Paintings for Exhibit & Calendar #2

Vantage Point Looking Northwest from just off shore of UAS, Lilly Pads were near walkway. I used a paddle board to investigate the perspective from around the entire lake and began initial drawing from the site that matched most closely. I deduced Sydney Laurence was not near the bridge because that area had been logged at the time. Under painting was done from bike path just after fog had lifted late in the day. Inspired by Silent Pool, Sydney Laurence
Vantage Point looking south at end Boy Scout Beach trail during low tide. I used the spot on the Eagle/Herbert Bar where Sydney Laurence spent time. I used my husband for a model while at Amalga Residency. The painting, outside of smoke and finishing touches on model, was done en plein air.
Vantage Point looking south to Eagle Glacier from river bank near the parking lot for Boy Scout Beach hiking trail. ( This spot is near where the old horse tram that ran from Eagle Landing at Amalga to Eagle River ended and the old river bed of Herbert would have come from right. There is a photo of Sydney standing at this spot, however in 1904 this area was clear cut all the way to the glacier which is seen only through the trees now. Laurence's exact perspective cannot be matched without standing in the swamp now. I actually triangulated Laurences exact angle from our boat and then worked toward the river bank where I believe he stood for his painting.
